CF-SAR
1944 Stinson V-77 (AT-19) Reliant.---
Development of the commercial Reliant had ended with the SR-10 series in 1938 after a number of Reliant models were built since the first rolled out of the factory in 1933.
The Reliant was resurrected in a military version during WW II and named the AT-19.
There were 500 AT-19s built into late 1943 of which nearly all were shipped to England on a lend/lease basis to serve in the Royal Navys Fleet Air Arm Unit
They had four designations with different duties for each.
AT-19 (Reliant 1) Ferrying Personnel
AT-19A (Reliant 2) Navigational Trainer
AT-19B (Reliant 3) Observation and Photography
AT-19C (Reliant 4) Cargo Hauling
After the war, more than 350 were shipped back to the US to be declared surplus and were sold for $1500 - $2500 each, depending on condition. Most were returned to the Stinson plant in Wayne, Michigan to be reconditioned and re-designated V-77 (Vultees 77th design and the last of the big Gullwing Stinsons).
CF-SAR (formerly AT-19A 43-44017 Reliant 2) was flown to the British airfield HMS Goshawk in Trinidad where she was stationed until the end of the war before being shipped back to the US to eventually become N9792H.
She was owned privately in the US from 1946 until September of 2005 when Simon
flew her from Savannah, Tennessee to her new home at Rose Field near Villeneuve.
